This week is brought to you by: “orange, olive, lace, a scarf, flat sandals a (maxi) skirt, or an uneven-hemmed skirt (handkerchief or hi-lo).”.

For your viewing pleasure, I give you: a scarf.

The extra bits: Ah, it’s either feast or famine around here when it comes to Blogging Besties, isn’t it?

This is the second week now that I was hard pressed into coming up with something compliant for the linkup, but at least I have an excuse this time. Today’s Spirit Week prompt is Class Colors and my lovely juniors switched out from purple to black at the last minute. Not that purple would’ve helped me with Whitney’s prompt at all, but I’d already done a black outfit this week and was not feeling like creating another. Couple that with the fact that orange (BB prompt) and black (Spirit Week req) would’ve been a bit too Halloween-y for me, and I’d got myself a fashion quandary.

I briefly thought of olive, but I’d played out my olive hand last week already. Flat sandals would’ve been easy but, although they looked perfectly adorable and appropriate on Whitney, mine made me feel informal and unprofessional (so much exposed foot skin and toe cleavage!). It was just way too hot for the fussiness of lace.

I did try a maxi skirt, but my current style aesthetic balked at all of them – the cute plaid one, the breezy chevron one, the fun striped one. It definitely looked horrified at the sweeping, full-skirted black one that would’ve been both linkup and Spirit Week apropos but made me look like a pregnant witch. (There’s that Halloween referencing again!)

So, yeah. That left me with a scarf. And even that was a struggle as I tried to decide whether I was gonna go monochrome or pop of color. Whether I wanted kitschy or sleek. Whether it needed to be an infinity knot or cravat tie.

Argh! Sometimes, it’s such a burden being an indecisive Gemini!

Hope today’s ensemble isn’t too mundane in all its unrelieved black. And yes, I’m fooling you again because this isn’t a one piece dress but separates – blouse and skirt. (I tried to get a good close up for you but black rally isn’t very photogenic in my backyard). The trick, I’m realizing, is matching like colors and fabric.

Vive le vendredi!

  1. Foot skin and toe cleavage…hahahaha! You are too funny 🙂 I guess I’m getting risque with my work-wear! Thanks for linking-up even though it was tricky this work. I’m always impressed when you mix your style challenges. I had the perfect outfit ready for T3 this week but wound up so busy that I didn’t take a single outfit photo. Booo to busy weeks but in your words, vive le vendredi!

    • I will always endeavor to link up with BB. It’s one of the things I look forward to, blog-wise, every week. And no worries about T3. You can always save the outfit and post about it for another month. 😀

    • Thanks, Ada! I admit to being out of the blogging loop and haven’t been around to visit, but i promise to get my act in gear and stop by more often soon!

    • Aaaand you give me alliteration on this fine Friday morning! Huzzah! Just the thing to calm me down after a frenetic morning of waking up and realizing Aly is sick and no one else can take her so I had to stay home from work which meant calling in a sub, texting my principal, writing sub plans, emailing my sub plans to a colleague, hunting down my TA on Facebook to give him instructions, waking Dyl up to get him ready for school, giving Aly meds, and calling my carpool to tell him not to pick me up. Whew! Here’s hoping I’ve reached my allotment of excitement for the weekend.

        • Well, then I remembered that we (and by “we”, I mean my husband) tore up the floor in our library to prep it for carpet. And that in order to do so, he took down my lovely floor-to-ceiling bookshelves so not only do I not have them as a backdrop for pictures but all my hundreds of books are stacked in towering piles in my living room. And we (and by “we”, I mean my husband) will probably spend the weekend mudding and texturing and painting the walls and scraping the mastic from the concrete floors all weekend. I’ll trade you your unpacking any day. ;p

          • Ugggghhhhhh. Yes. I wish you could come here and help me organize my new giant closet! It’s both rad/terrible. It looks cool! So much space! Shelves! Shoe cubbies! Hanging rods! But the rods are ALL at the wrong height (and not easily adjustable). We love/hate it.

And I need to figure out if I really need a dresser anymore or if the closet will just suffice…

            I have decision fatigue.

    • Why, thank you very much for the compliment! And thanks for stopping by. Sadly, I had to stay home from work today to take care of my daughter who is running a temperature for the third day in a row so no one beyond the blogosphere will be able to appreciate the cuteness of this outfit.

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
