OOTD :: of an homage to one of my bestest blogging buddies

This week is brought to you by: “lace tank, cardigan, skinny jeans, flats, leopard print, arm party, and fall tones”.

For your viewing pleasure, I give you: a cardigan and fall tones.

The extra bits: At least, I think silver and purple are fall tones?

I did have this adorable outfit with plaid and oxblood all prepped but then the weather conspired against me once again, and it was simply too cute a fall outfit to waste on a hot day, so I tabled that for this one instead.

The purple is an homage to Selah @ A Bibliophile’s Style because it’s her signature color. I’ve always admired how gorgeous she looks in it, and it’s a jewel tone so you would think I’d be able to try my hand at it too, but for some reason, I don’t own very much purple. So now, every time I score a piece in that hue, I think of Selah and channel my inner her.

How fortuitous that my newest purple piece is a cardigan, perfect for this week’s Blogging Besties linkup. I’m pairing it with my Audrey graphic tee, another piece reminiscent of Selah because of her penchant for celebrity tees. I guess you could call today a celebration of my own blogging bestie, eh?

Vive le vendredi!

OOTD :: of Thoughtful Thursday and attitude

Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.

― Lou Holtz

It’s too hot to function. The outfit for today has been replaced with this supercute jumpsuit that needs it’s work debut anyway. To make it less scandalous, I paired it with this blazer but attempted to maintain a bit of funkiness with these wedges. And because I got home too late from 13th Room to take pics of the entire ensemble, you all just get to use your

So, Anne used her imagination and came up with another one of her fabulous sketches. (And curiously, it matches the first one she’s done of me because same blazer!) She just whipped it up in the morning too. Gods, the woman is all kinds of talented! I heart her so much!!!

OOTD :: of the 13th Room and not being a wimp

Hullo, Wordless Wednesday!

Here’s hoping I don’t make an ass of myself when my team and I do the 13th Room experience today after school. At least I’m wearing flats just in case we have to run.

OOTD :: of the return of the Doctor and a bit of ambivalence

So perhaps it’s a good thing that Jenna Coleman, aka Clara Oswald, is bowing out as the Doctor’s Companion this season. Much as her character has endeared herself to me these past few seasons, and much as I respect Ms. Coleman’s acting chops, I just can’t get the chemistry between her and Capaldi. So much so that I am really quite hard-pressed to even remember any of the episodes from last season; I was that unimpressed.

Well, “unimpressed” is an inaccurate term. I’m more “lukewarm” about the whole thing. I feel so disconnected from the dynamic between Capaldi and Coleman. It’s like reading a book for school versus reading a book for pleasure – I can still appreciate the content but I have no visceral, emotional investment.

The season 9 opener last Saturday was no exception. Even though I’m a Nu-Whovian and all the references to apparently iconic elements like Davros and Skaro escaped me, I was still ready to give the Capaldi/Coleman duo another go. But no dice. Nada. Zilch. Even when he unexpectedly hugged her. No tears. No feels. Couple that with a fan-heavy, geektastic story arc, and The Magician’s Apprentice left me cold. (And what’s that all about anyway? Who was supposed to be the apprentice? And who the magician? I don’t care if it’s a two-parter; I waited 9 months for this and I did not want my wait to end in bewilderment!)

So, au revoir, Jenna Coleman. Here’s hoping your replacement makes more sparks fly with Capaldi than your Clara Oswald did.

Okay, three paragraphs of fangirl (can I even call myself a Whovian fangirl after my three-paragraph admission of ignorance?) rant aside, let’s talk clothes. As of this writing, I’m not even sure if I’ll be sporting this ensemble for real. Aly is still running a temperature; I just got yelled at by my mother for even considering going in to work instead of taking her to the doctor (see what I did there?) and I may just end up calling in sick myself for another day so I can be mom instead of teacher.

How the hell do single mothers do this?!

If I do go to work, I shall be wearing this all-blue affair in honor of my linkup. I may be feeling “meh” about the Doctor and “grrr” about my daughter’s persistent illness, but at least I can fake professionalism in a relatively cute outfit.
