OOTD :: of trying a trend and achievements

This month’s prompt is a Supernatural Read, just in time for Halloween. Join me and Selah in four days with your ensemble. Heck, we’d even welcome an early Halloween costume!

In the meantime, on with today’s OOTD…

You wouldn’t think those two would go together in my world, right? “Trying a trend” and “achievements”. Because according to the purpose of this blog, an achievement would be my shopping my closet. And trying a trend implies making purchases since, you know, trend.

But today’s OOTD manages to overcome the potential paradox because lo and behold! I had all the pieces in my closet already to trend out to my 70s vibe.

According to Glamour, InStyle, Harper’s Bazaar, and a slew of style blogs out there, the 70s is back in biz. And for someone who professes to dislike everything about the decade – specifically the films and TV shows because the production values and acting is so…so… – I have to admit that I am charmed by the fashion.

Having grown up in the era, I was in no position to enjoy appreciate it. And nostalgia was never in my wheelhouse. As an adult and looking back retrospectively, however, I can certainly see the appeal of flowy tops, bell bottoms, vests, et al. And this acknowledgement must have crept into my subconscious because my wardrobe is actually riddled with pieces reminiscent of the decade.

So I did own this batwing-sleeved, paisley peasant top. I did own the blue velvet flares. I did own the macramé-esque wedge heels. And maybe the heavy, leather-and-metal fringe necklace is a bit of overkill, but I did own that too.

So happy Monday and huzzahs for achieving a trend. Just don’t expect me to binge watch episodes of The Love Boat or CHiPS.

  1. Oh, honey! It’s perfect, this rig! Velvet bells … you have velvet bells that fit you like a glove and a pretty paisley top … perfection with the fringe leather neclace. I was in my 20’s and had a grand time in the 70s, so my memory is happier, but you must take comfort in the fact that you look better than any of us did then! So cool. Not used to you as a blonde yet, but getting there. Far out, lady.

That’s the filter, my friend. My hair is not really that light – I just wanted to show off the blue of the pants but I guess I went overboard. ;p

  2. Melanie says:

Wow, I’m digging those velvet bell bottoms! And the batwing top. AND the necklace thingy. Awesome.

So much going on in this outfit, eh? Almost borderline overkill perhaps? Thanks for stopping by and hope you come again soon.

Awesome flares! No, please no Love Boat, but yes to these trousers. xox

    Now I want velvet bell-bottoms – spectacular!

  5. PERFECT! My original intent today was to go with a full 70s buy but alas, the flare jeans that I bought just didn’t work on me…so fringe it was. But you, my friend, are oh so trendy!

Yay you! Mad hunt your closet! You look Coachella ready (except we all know that April in the Inland Empire is NO time to wear velvet bellbottoms). OK, the necklace makes me giggle. I would have YEARNED for (and figured out how to craft) that item when I was 14. Peace out!
Thanks for linking. You’re the life of the party!

    • mtsedwards says:

You’re absolutely right about April and the Inland Empire. Then again, it’s October in the Inland Empire and I’m still sporting this beauty because it’s fall, dammit, and I refuse to be dictated to by the weather. Thank goodness for climate-controlled classrooms!

Tell me all about it! I'm listening...
