When I was invited to be the second guest on my friend Joe’s fledgling podcast, Geektitude, there was no question about what I’d be geeking out about. Sure, I’m in the throes of my anime elective right now, and I do maintain a Crunchyroll account even as I let my Netflix account elapse. But my geektitude is strong with Doctor Who.
If you feel so inclined and have got an hour and 17 minutes to spare (I know; I talk. I’m a talker), then do visit Joe’s blog and have a listen to our Sunday chat. However, if you want the Sparks Notes version, I pretty much try to indoctrinate my non-Whovian friend into the magic that is Doctor Who by giving him my top episodes from the Nu-Who series.
And making that list is the Eccleston two-parter, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.
The people over at Head Over Feels pretty much mind melded with me and say what I feel about these two episodes much more coherently and persuasively than I, and since this is primarily a style blog after all, I leave you to hyperlink-jump away whilst I blather on a bit about the OOTD.
The episodes take place in 1940s England and I think this dress has a very distinct 40s flair to it, specifically the very in-your-face novelty print. Although the silhouette and the ruffles are more reminiscent of the 20s and 30s, the sunny lemons do make a statement. And I did try to keep it more authentic with the footwear; after all, oxfords and Mary Janes were the standard back then, yeah?
And now full disclosure: the real reason for this dress is because I was once again trying to kill multiple birds with one stone. Let’s see if I succeeded:
- TARDIS Tuesday – mentioned the Doctor and the inspiration for the choice of dress. Check.
- Create28 Fall – the prompt for the day was “Dress”. Yup. Check.
- 52 Pick-me-up – the prompt was “Sun/Miracle/Reward”. The print is sunny; it’s a miracle I found it after months of looking for just the right lemon print during a lemon-obsessed Mad Hunt; and I feel I ought to be rewarded for successfully making an ensemble do triple duty.
