This month’s T3 prompt was Gratitude (what have you read that inspired gratitude). And there’s nothing I have been more grateful for in my blogging journey than Selah @ A Bibliophile’s Style.
I am grateful for Selah’s being my oldest, staunchest blog buddy. For being the Spock to my Kirk. For being the Yoda to my Luke. For reminding me always that serenity and simplicity beats histrionics and ostentation every time.
And I’m grateful to Selah for never failing to recommend books even though we don’t usually have matching tastes.
Her more recent suggestion was Mechanica by Betsy Cornwell, a sly attempt to get me to see the error of my ways, I’m sure. I’d waxed enthusiastic about Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles forever and a day, but Selah was decidedly unimpressed. This is what happens when a reader actually reads instead of skims. (Yes, I am guilty of the latter, which is why I’m a better visionary than I am a realist and perhaps why I can never actually finish any novel I try to write.)
Anyhow, I’m currently reading Mechanica and am enjoying the first person/past tense combo. It’s a nice melding of YA and traditional high fantasy. I’ve not finished it yet – got sidetracked with a Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. binge session – but I like what I’ve read so far. And it fits with this month’s T3 theme because I truly am grateful that Selah never gives up on me and constantly encourages me to expand my bibliophilic horizons.
What does today’s OOTD have anything to do with the book, though? Not much, except, perhaps, I can spin it like this:
The toile pattern is reminiscent of Cinderella-esque fashion motifs, which ties in with the Cinderella-inspired plot of Mechanica. The black tunic dress is reminiscent of an austere smock that the beleaguered, step-family-inheriting protagonist in Mechanica could have worn when she was relegated to the servants’ quarters. And the peacock pendant is reminiscent of the glitz, glamor and finery of a ball (which I’m sure will be dealt with in the book since it is a Cinderella retelling after all – and what would a Cinderella retelling be without a ball? – but which I have yet to read).
Whew. Yeah. So out of practice with this style blogging thing. Not my best work by far, either sartorially or textually, but I hope it suffices for T3.
Your turn, my friends. Read something recently that inspired gratitude (and an outfit)? Do click on the blue froggy and tell…
