OOTD :: of Monday metamorphosis

monday rest

Gave you two option for comfy footwear here. Pick your poison.

JMC said she wore jeans “every. single. damn. day” and she didn’t sound too thrilled about it.

Now, I’m not one to defend routine/monotony, but as a working mom, I do so look forward to weekends when I can shlep around in my boyfriend jeans. Perhaps JMC didn’t mean to disparage jeans per se; maybe she just needs a jean reboot.

And since I’ve already talked about wearing items more than once before laundering, I feel no shame about revealing that I intend to remix my fave pair of boyfriend jeans for the next three days this week. Why? Well, a) to prove to JMC that jeans every. single. damn. day can be fun and b) because I’m still on vacay, people, and I’m feeling extremely lazy.

Today, then, we begin with jeans and that all-time wardrobe staple: the Breton shirt. Every gal should own an iteration or three of this top because not only is it extremely comfortable and easy care (most are cotton or cotton blend, JMC!), it’s one step above a regular tee and can easily morph you from homebound hausfrau to errand running ace in a matter of seconds.

Some mommies might cringe at the sight of any sort of heel, but I SWEAR that these are like wearing flats.

All it takes is switching out footwear, donning an infinity scarf (a busy fashionista mom’s best friend), and half tucking that tee and you’re ready to grab the groceries and pick up the kiddies while looking cas and polished at the same time. If you’re feeling sassy and/or chilly, throw on a utility jacket for that third layer and now you’ve ramped up your look even more.

Now wasn’t that easy-peasy?

NOTE: It was super gusty outside (25mph winds) so I’m trying a new space for my pics. Sadly, I’ve realized that outdoor light is best, and my shots are sub-par, even after tweaking them in Photoshop. Ah, well. Y’all get the point.

OOTD :: of monochrome and neutral niftiness

Alright, perhaps I was a bit premature in my celebrating.

Because I don’t know if 86 degrees Fahrenheit can be considered cool. Unless, perhaps, you live in the Sahara.

Still, I am closeted in my arctic classroom all day, so I’m going to proceed with my trouser theme with impunity.

Today’s offering is a study in monochrome and neutrals. After so many weeks living in bright colors and prints, it’s a bit refreshing trying my hand at understatement.

I’ve not worn these particular pair of trousers in a while because brown has always been such a trial for me. I like it on others but have a hard time wearing it myself. Maybe that’s why I’ve chosen it for my neutral day – the only thing I can think of pairing it with is a subdued pairing of off-white on off-white.

The deep V of the top’s neckline proved another difficulty. I tried several necklaces for this ensemble and was coming up blank. Then I remembered there are other neck accessories besides necklaces. Out came my scarf bin and with a little maneuvering – and a creative use of a sarong clip – I managed to fashion a nifty bit of visual interest while still sticking to the neutral palette.

I like this outfit a lot. Although I have a sneaking suspicion it won’t photograph well – light colors and flowy tops translate dumpy on camera unless one is a 6’2″ 105-lb. model – I feel polished and comfortable in it, and really, that’s all anyone can ask for, isn’t it?

P.S. Pardon the lighting and the photo quality. I dunno what’s going on today…
