OOTD :: of opting out of Halloween

So the Blogging Besties pass-on items for the week were as follows: scarf, colored tee, black pants, boots, and leopard print. Clearly, I chose to pass-on the scarf and boots, but honestly, even without the linkup, I still would’ve concocted this outfit because I’m all about fall and I’m dying to break out my cold-weather gear already.

And even though it was a sweltering 85ºF when I took this pictures, I’m still smiling. It’s my version of a rain dance, if you will. Or wishful thinking. Anything to make the weather decide to turn in my favor.

Now had I chosen to dress up for Halloween, I think this would have been the year for my geisha outfit (I have four costumes I rotate through so the kids don’t see me repeat; I know, I’m anal), so maybe it’s a good thing I opted out. That ensemble just has too many layers and would have been way too hot for today.

So instead, you sport an infinity scarf, snuggly cardi and boots?

Yeah. I never said common sense was my forté. Besides, I had to wear my most marigold-y dress (I do believe that print is as reminiscent to the flower as I’ve gotten this week) to round out the week’s theme.

Vive le vendredi et vive le halloween!

OOTD :: of venerably vintage, or boycotting “old people”

We truly are a youth culture.

When ASB leaders proclaim today’s spirit theme to be “Old People” and no one bats an eyelash, it’s pretty painfully clear that we are a society of ageists and who am I to protest? I am but a lone voice screaming into the void of adolescence, and an authority figure at that. Do you know how long I’ve been begging for Pajama Day? Can we say ‘futile’?

Then again, we all know that it’s not in my nature to go gently into that good night. So when I’m given parameters to be in compliance with spirit days (we have to sport at least 3 items per day that follows the theme), I try my damndest to tweak those parameters to suit my fashion sensibilities.

Hair in bun? Check.

Cardigan? Check.

Plaid? Check.

Sensible shoes? Ack! Check.

But here’s hoping the overall look is more venerably vintage than frumpy stereotype.

I intend to grow old gracefully, people, and I know it can be done! Forty is the new twenty, after all.
