OOTD :: of the return of the TARDIS

The TARDIS blue, that is.

That’s right, my friends: it’s a Tuesday work day and that means TARDIS Tuesday is baaack!

Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m the only one who’s remotely excited about this. But think on it: according to my revelation yesterday, I thrive on boundaries and parameters, right? So today, we’ve got 50 Dresses, You Go, Rococo, 90-Day Spending Fast, and TARDIS Tuesday.

Man, am I piling on the challenges or what?!

What gets me even more excited about this ensemble? Here are some ways:

1. I’m remixing (because of that no-spending thing).

2. I’m comfortable. (Heels all last week killed my feet.)

3. I finally found and acquired my TARDIS blue Chucks. (My Converse collection is complete.)

OOTD :: of overcoming the green curse

5.29.14

I don’t do green. I have reconciled myself to this.

We all remember my struggles every time St. Paddy’s Day rolls around because of this very sad fact. So although I admire it on others and have numerous outfit Pins to prove it, I have never really been successful in styling this troublesome color.

But perhaps this shirt will break the cycle? A Joe Fresh number that sang to me from the depths of the sale rack, I knew I had to have it simply for the fun repeating pattern alone. Are they hearts? Butterfly wings? Half an apple? Who cares? It’s super fun! And it’s green!

Of course, once the rush of spontaneous purchasing died down and I brought my prize home, I was once again at a loss. It shouldn’t have been so hard, right? At its very core, it’s a simple button down shirt. And flowy silk to boot. Styling this should be right in my wheelhouse. But I stared and pondered, hemmed and hawed, and at the end, regretfully decided to turn around and return the darned thing for want of a proper outfit.

Once again, though, Anne and her Pick-me-up challenge came to the rescue because Pattern Overload made me rethink my approach. On a whim, I threw on my newly-acquired Thakoon skirt, and voilà! Pattern mixing magic! Who woulda thunk it? I think I may just have this green curse beat after all.

OOTD :: of icy willows and the simple things

4.22.14

4.22.14

4.22.14

Sometimes, you’ve just gotta let the clothes do all the talking for you.

Take today’s outfit, for example. There’s nary a print nor statement necklace in sight. I didn’t do a completer piece. I resisted the temptation to over-embellish. Why? Because it was perfectly fine the way it was and wanted to be left alone, thank you very much.

When I initially threw the ensemble together, I didn’t have very high expectations. Frankly, I was compelled to put these specific pieces in play mainly because of the colors from the inspiration photo and not much else. The trousers were new and I wanted to use them relatively soonish because they felt very Spring-like, but I’d never have thought to pair it with a tunic since both felt too floaty together, if you know what I mean.

But then something clicked when I surveyed the results in the mirror. This is what happens when you’ve got strong pieces. The lines are clean and simple. The drape of the tunic top is strengthened by the crispness of the linen trousers. The shoe may be a daring stilleto but it’s mostly unseen due to the length of the pant. I kept the accessories just as spare and discreet. The vibe was very minimalist, and I liked it.

You know, we really ought to take a cue from nature when we dress – beauty is borne of simplicity and elegance and more often than not, Mother (Nature) does know best.

Hello, Wordless Wednesday! Thank you for permitting me to commandeer today with a few yet monumental words:

Firstly, happy anniversary to me and my humble blog. It’s been officially one whole year since my very first post (lordy, now that‘s embarrassing!) and I’m still going strong. For those of you who’ve been with me since Day 1: it’s been a helluva ride, hasn’t it? And for all my new friends: thanks for visiting my little corner of the interweb. Here’s hoping for another banner blogging year.

Secondly, to commemorate my special occasion, I am opening up shop. Yes, my friends, my body she is a-changin’ and now’s your chance to scoop up some goodies that sadly no longer settle properly on my aging frame. Have a gander at MCC’s $9.99 Boutique. You know you wanna. And check frequently. I’ll be adding loads more stuff as I slowly but surely cull ye ole closet.
