OOTD :: of lace, floral and that Woodstock vibe

I love, love, love this cardi. Or is it a cover up? Or is it a kimono?

Regardless, when I got it from one of Romwe’s ubiquitous flash sales (when they tell you something that used to be $40 was now yours for the low, low price of $9.99 quantities limited?) I had low expectations for it. After all, I’d not had much luck with Romwe’s merchandise, it being one of those Asian stores who cater to the waify and wispy. But I figured, heck! It’s only $9.99 and free ship and if it didn’t work out, it’s an instant regift.

But I got it and I put it on and I love it! It’s actually quite versatile – here, it’s very hippy cool but I’ve also since worn it with a sleeveless yellow sundress from Old Navy and it took on a different vibe – flirty and classy with an appropriate amount of twee. Perhaps if you’re nice, I’ll feature that ensemble later.

For now, let’s wave a fond farewell to this week’s Woodstock Nation theme and pat ourselves on the back for successfully navigating its bohemian aesthetic without once having to purchase new items.

OOTD :: of tank tops, palazzos, and breaking the rules

6.9.14

So here I am, already breaking the rules.

But Caitlin’s challenge was too good to pass up. I mean, sure I’ve got loads of patterned skirts but I’m going to the movies today and I want to be able to get into prime movie-watching position, which for me is sitting crisscross applesauce.

Palazzo pants it is.

I’ll pick up with the Summer of Skirts on Wednesday, but if you give me leeway this one time, I promise to watch summer movies on Tuesdays and Thursdays so as not to interfere with my plans any further.

And if that’s not taking OCD to a new level, I don’t know what is. 😜

Anyhow, this week not only signals the official beginning of my summer wardrobe, it also marks the end of the road with Anne and her 52 Pick-me-up challenges. The end, that is, of her Wednesday to Wednesday scheduling. She’d mentioned moving the linkup to a more MCC-friendly Sunday to Sunday and I, for one, look forward to a new year of SpyGirl challenges.

This week, then, Anne and I present to you Groovin’ in the 60s. (Which, btw, is part of the reason for rule-breaking). According to Sammy Davis Vintage, bell bottoms – or palazzo pants – are one of the top ten ways to sport your inner hippie. I took it one step further and “burned my bra” for this look, wearing the tank top au natural and therefore eliminating unsightly straps. I also wore my new sunnies from Old Navy because I like the beachy vibe it gives the look.

My neck felt a bit bare, however, so I’d already planned to wear one of my statement necklaces, but lo and behold! What should come in the mail but my birthday present from KS #2! Lookit! Lookit! Isn’t it beeyootiful?! I thought I wanted it in silver but the gold is so much more luxe; I’m glad she didn’t listen to me and chose wisely instead.

All in all, I’m pretty pleased with my ensemble. So much so that I’m not even gonna whinge about baring arms.

Hullo Wordless Wednesday!

You know you’re totally loving the girly juxtaposition of floral and lace but also admiring the sly sassyness of such blatant pattern mixing.

OOTD :: of finding order from chaos, 200 Bloglovin’ followers, and a Target Giveaway

When I Mad Hunted palazzo pants and ended up owning six lovely pairs – go eBay! – I didn’t think I’d have issues styling them. After all, I wouldn’t have Mad Hunted them otherwise if I’d not had plans for them. I was even thinking of doing an entire themed week around them.

The best laid plans of mice and men…

This pair proved particularly problematic because of the pattern and the colors. The pattern is so bold that it practically demanded the top be as simple as possible. And the multiple colors aroused the ADD in me and made it difficult for me to decide which one to highlight. Finally, the dramatic cut of the pant limited the type of top necessary for a pleasing aesthetic.

Lucky for me, I have Anne as my fashion wingwoman. And this week, she’s hosting a Yellow Fever party. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Yellow top it is. And as fortune would have it, I had emptied out my haphazard tanks/tees organization cube and rolled them up nicely into easily-identifiable rows in an underbed storage bin. So I discovered I owned a yellow tank top and immediately yanked it out as a base.

The completer piece was a no-brainer after that. This yellow blazer is from F21, as is the tank, and we all know my thoughts on buying from the same store/label: doing so ensures that any one item will go with any other item, regardless of how many seasons old one is from the other. Bonus points to the blazer for having three-quarter length sleeves and a cropped silhouette; the shorter lines prevent my being overwhelmed by too much fabric.

My neck felt a bit exposed, but there was no way I was gonna mess with a statement necklace when wearing those gyrating pants. So I opted for the simple silver initial necklace my kiddos got me for Christmas (their attempt at getting me a monogram necklace; clearly, I needed to show exemplars of what an actual monogram is).

Huh. Will you look at that. When all is said and done, it wasn’t too difficult after all.

In happier news, my good friend Alex @ Undergraduate Style is celebrating her 200th Bloglovin’ follower by hosting a fabulous giveaway. (I, myself, am only at a lowly 26 Bloglovin’ followers so I’m living vicariously through Alex. You go, girl!)

Click on the various Rafflecopter links to enter for multiple chances to win a $50 Target gift card. And who couldn’t use a $50 Target gift card? Of course, because I’m hosted on the renegade WordPress rather than the user-friendly Blogger platform, the Rafflecopter linkies don’t immediately pop up on this page, but if you click on the link below the giveaway promo picture, you can access them that way.

Come join the fun and celebrate with us!
