WIT :: Warby Parker redux

So when I got this email from Brian Magida of Warby Parker, I totally thought it was a hoax. And because I’m all about due diligence, I immediately consulted my boyfriend, Google, to see if the offer was legit. Surprisingly, it was, so we then proceeded to trade very amiable messages back and forth, discussing a potential partnership.

At one point, I could’ve ruined the whole thing because the nasty little greed monster reared its mercenary head and I’d asked what was in it for me. (Coz, you know, I thought I’d be able to score a free pair of sunnies or at least some sort of coupon code for a new pair of glasses). Brian very graciously said I could perhaps get a shout out on their YouTube channel, I was properly mortified at my temerity for asking in the first place, then I ran with my tail between my legs to Polyvore to fulfill my obligation without further ado.

After all, upon later reflection, I should simply feel flattered and honored that I even showed up as a blip on his radar. I mean, how many style blogs are there out there? Millions. How big/popular/followed is mine? Not so much. Ah, hubris! You shall be the end of me!

But, bygones. Let’s focus on the product. (Focus. See what I did there? And there? Oh, punny punny…)

Brian sent me some lovely pics of their new 2014 Spring Collection and because I’m an indecisive Gemini, I’m choosing to highlight one pair of sunnies and one pair of glasses. Because I can’t do just one, but I’m not crazy enough to do all (grades are due and I have loads of projects to assess).

Here, then, are the chosen ones and how I’d style them:

Walker in Canton Blue

Yeah, you knew this was a given, right? I mean, c’mon! It’s TARDIS blue! I’d be all over these glasses if they were more rectangular or even a funky cat’s eye shape. I find that rounder frames emphasize the wonderfully strong jaw and jowls I’ve inherited from my father.

As it stands, however, I think these are the perfect frames for a variety of stylistas. See Exhibit A below:

Exhibit A – Which is your fave?

I had a harder time narrowing down the sunnies, but ultimately chose these:

Quimby in Absinthe

Quimby in Absinthe

Why? Let me count the ways: 1. They’re absinthe. Is there ever a cooler name for green than that? 2. The Lennon-esque roundness really appeals to the rocker-cum-intellectual in me. 3. The color just screams “Look at me! I belong in the wilds of Hollywood or the tundras of Saint-Tropez!” and we all know how the outrageous in me revels in that kind of attention.

Too bad I can’t wear sunnies since I’m blind without my glasses and prescription shades just seems excessive when I own Transitions and there are far too many shoes to buy. If my fairy style mother granted these lovelies to me with a prescription, however, I’d style it thusly:

Exhibit B - Guess which one I'm most drawn to.

Exhibit B – Guess which one I’m most drawn to…

And if you wanna see me in full Warby Parker glory meself, head on over to this post and cackle uproariously at my pained, contrived smiles, super-busy background, and outrageously long locks. I ended up re-lensing my Calvin Klein pair then to appease the hubs, but I’ll have WB in the back of my mind for future glasses purchases.

They have great customer service and they obviously have great taste in style. ;p

What’s in my cart :: Warby Parker

My husband hates my glasses.

I don’t know why.  I think they’re snazzy.  And they’re Fendi, if that means anything to you.

But my husband thinks they’re ugly.  When pressed for more info (support your opinion with evidence, please), all he can offer is that they’re too big for my face.  Now I tend to disagree since they’re actually about the same size as my last pair.

Plus, they’re half-rimmed which makes them seem to float and disappear against my face.

Or so I think.

This is one of those instances when we just agree to disagree.

But right now, I’m up for a new pair. And rather than rock the boat and just re-lens these frames which is the more fiscally responsible option but which will probably tick him off immensely, I am going to try to appease my husband and hopefully please myself in the appeasing.

Thank goodness for Warby Parker.  I stumbled upon them from Wardrobe Oxygen Allie’s post which gives you a concise review complete with photos.  She ended up not getting any of them but here’s hoping I’ll have better luck.

Here are the glasses I’ve ordered through their Home Try-On program.  Each picture of me wearing one corresponds to the pair above.  (Did that make sense?)

I know, I know.  They all look identical.  What can I say – I have particular tastes.  But I swear each one is distinctly different.

I will only have five days from when I receive my goodies to make up my mind, so you folks wanna help a sistah out and chime in on which one I should get?

I know I take off my glasses for the photos featured on this blog, but let me assure you that they’re pretty much on my face all the rest of the time, only coming off in the shower and right before bed.  And maybe, if we pick the right pair, I’ll be able to take more pics with them on as a cool accessory?  (Fine, maybe my husband is right and my current glasses are dorky since I obviously don’t like the way I look in them in photos.)

I’d really appreciate as much feedback on this one, my friends.  I’ll be stuck with the final decision for at least a year, you know.

No pressure or anything.
